The British Monarchy Film & History Taxi Tour
The pomp and circumstance the pageantry, (and the Film Locations) have you ever wondered how it all started?
The British Monarchy Tour will explain it all. Our tour will take us all round London Driving past the sites of this majestic city.
On route we will hear the story of the monarchy and how they have ruled for over 1000 years. See statues of Henry VIII, Alfred the Great, memorials to Diana, Prince Albert, George VI (Kings Speech) and Elizabeth his wife. Marvel at the homes and Palaces that the royals have lived in and those they still do.
There have been many films devoted to the Royal family, none so popular as The Crown. This Netflix series follows the Life of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and Phillip Duke of Edinburgh. During this tour we will mix and match history with Film location sites.
You will see the filming locations used for Clarence House, plus The Ambassador’s Dinner where Princess Margaret created quite a stir. Your guide will show you how London cleverly doubles up as Australia.
We shall see the Royal State coaches and the horses that pull them. Elizabeth I, a great queen in the 1500's we shall visit a building that still stands intact from her time. Kate and William, Diana, Charles and Camilla, Harry and Meghan we shall see and hear stories and all the gossip of these fascinating modern royal couples.
Changing the guard, how did this ceremony start? We shall find out. Why does the Queen have 2 birthdays? Where is the Court of St James's? What is the Privy Purse or the Lord Chamberlain, Treasurer or Master of the Household? We shall answer all these questions and more.
Kings and Queens have taken part in Public Ceremonial events, which have served to emphasise the Monarchy and to make them more visible to their subjects. Touching for the Kings evil, the State Opening of Parliament, the Maundy ceremony and the annual procession and service of the Order of the Garter, All these ceremonies devised centuries ago, but you will find out their true meaning and the types of regalia the Monarchy wears for each and every one. State occasion mean State Coaches and we shall see them on this tour.
During the All Day Tour we will visit Greenwich, to explore the Royal Naval College and Hospital, both, designed by Sir Christopher Wren, to see what these two structures were used for in the filming. We will also follow the history of these sites as the Monarchy has played a very part of their lives.
Eltham Palace is our next stop (all day tour only). This palace where tudor Architecture meets Art Deco features both in Films and has a wealth of History. In the Crown part of the palace became the Queen’s quarters on the Royal Yacht Britannia, plus interiors for HMSS Queen Mary, together with scenes of the Bermuda Government House. It also does in the second series.
Lunch is even royal on this tour as we shall stop and eat in a building built in the reign of Elizabeth I (1562) and is still standing today. After lunch we carry on our Monarchy theme hearing and seeing more royal stories.
